Inguinal Hernia recovery time

Apologies as I am sure this has been done before, but I searched hernia and only found links to the Mayhem aftermath threads.
So, I had a hernia repair last week and I am looking for a back to cycling time scale plan. I had one done before (20yrs ago) and it’s been fine, but I honestly can’t remember how long it was before I was cycling again. The last time it was a keyhole repair and heading into the Autumn meant that I had planned a big rest anyway. This time around it’s an open repair, any stories or links to previous threads, about recovery time and getting back on the bikes would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Well wishing you a speedy recovery
I had the mesh repair about 4 years ago
And not sure if its the same for all
But took me about a year before the shooting pains stopped
And getting back on a bike ,i was still working as landscaper then
Was also told the repair only lasts 5 years
But its (touch wood) been fine so far.
And ive cycled thousands of miles since it healed .
All the best

Re:

It depends how fit you are, and recovery rate will vary from person to person.

I had a Bilateral Inguinal Repair 20 years ago, which was done with open surgery. I am super whippet like, and was back on a bike after a month. It took me about 2 months to get somewhere back to cycling decent distances.

Pip.

The recovery time does seem to vary person to person
I am a smoker so maybe that slowed my healing time.
But after my op i was left with incontinence and chronic hemorrhoids and one corner of mesh was/ is protruding thought the scar tissue.. and the pain there after which i can only describe as being kicked in the balls with winkle pickers...
Ooooh

Thanks for the replies. In my mind I had already written off most of this year for any cycling, but just want to make the best of the recovery time .When I get any injury ,I am very much in the ‘don’t want to make things worse’ camp ’ so I may just drag out the turbo and test how I feel over time.
