Managed to get my hands on this, it's in good condition but needs a really good clean, I think it's a 76 but was wondering if you guys might know a bit more than me as my knowledge pre 80s isn't great!

Pics below, Peugeot frame and fork, strong light cranks, simplex der and dt shifters, campagnolo record hubs, mafac brakes

Hmm, not really my area but looks like a PA-10...........I think the first digit on the number is the year of manufacture. Hopefully someone who knows peugeots will be along soon.

I worked in a bike shop in the70's but didn't sell many pugs.

Re:

Apart from your headtube lugs painted black, and your different wheels, it looks very similar to this one from 1976.

Re:

Thanks guys, Shaun yours looks closest but it looks like the wheels are not original spec on this one then although the guy it came from said it was original as he bought it so not sure...

Is it worth a proper nuts and bolts refurb and rebuild job or better used as is with just a bit of a clean? It rides lovely!

The rear wheel is certainly not original..........its a large flange campag, the front is small flange which was not popular at the time so again likely not original. The French used French parts wherever possible.

It's not shabby and in good nick :) Depends on what you like to do, some people have a real hankering for peugeots and would take it apart and refurb...........others would just give it a wipe with an oily rag and ride it down the pub :)

Re:

I'd say it's definitely worth a full refurb. If it was in my stable it would be a keeper - it will be a stunning bike after a bit of elbow grease.
I agree with Shaun, the wheels are not original. They would have been Normandy LF hubs with Mavic tubular rims.

This google image is also tagged as a 1974 model PR10, must be the year they updated the decals and stem, but before they dropped the black lugs.

Thanks again guys, I've been doing a bit more digging and I'm now pretty convinced its a late74/75 crossover model, the lugs and paintwork say < 76, the decals say > 74, and it looks like there was a late 74 model in white whihc is the same/very simialr to the 75 model.

If your french is good this thread gives good info!

It came into our charity as a donation and we are trying to decide whether to do a full refurb and rebuild to add to our rolling museum, or to do a basic clean and refurb and move it on to a new owner.

I'm leaning towards a full nuts and bolts rebuild now, but we have a few projects on the go for the rolling museum at the moment, including a 1938 travel/packable tandem, a nice 50's Triumph, and a Hercules that needs some love so it might have to wait a bit! :-)
