If you saw a bike covered in gaffer tape, would you instantly assume it is a good bike under the tape? I'm wondering whether to try and disguise a decent bike I'm building or just buy a BSO for commuting?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers.

I think it would deter the common tea leaf!.

Also they dont like hassle, so wouldnt want to pull the sticky tape of the frame.

Those in the know would probably realise.

BTW If they want to take it nothing short of........

a handlebar mounted gattling gun!.

Would prove a deterent

Ive had 4 bloody bikes whipped. :(

One was a heapy trek 7000 which I hated anyway tho.

help this helps

Yeah, if a bike is 'uglified' I assume it must be a decent bike under the tape and spray paint. But as passiflora says, whatever you do to make it ugly is a deterrent in itself as you'd have to go to the effort of removing it, the more permanent it looks the better.

i have seen a couple of sprayed bikes and know there utter crap (usually done by a 14 year old with a bso!)
id say get a tatty looking bike from here
i have to say, old bikes look far less desirable than the next new shiny thing
unless theyre a theif and a retrobike member  :?
