All sorted now after many hours :x

Tried soaking with coke, nada. (Great idea though, what on earth was the first person that tried that thinking?)

Perry, loved your idea of using a stem, small yet never the less fatal flaw, the inside of the seatpost was too narrow. Bugger!

Tried pipe grips, they just slipped.

Nothing else for it. 3 hours with a hacksaw blade and I managed to cut it in half from the inside. Thanks for all the suggestions folks!

I have now added a 26.2mm seat post to my wants list
