Just bought a single speed wheel off epoo and the bearings feels quite "gritty" (freewheel is not too clever either)

Question is, what model hub is it and how do i service it? I've never had a hope hub before. Where can i get a freewheel for it? Cheers.

That's a Ye Olde Hope screw on freewheel hub. Not sure about the bearing size, but it takes a standard BMX screw on freewheel (£16) or at the other end of the market a yummy White Industries one for about £70.

or to put it another way

an acs thats unsealed and will eventually skip

or a WI thatl last years and uses a sealed bearing

im still waiting for my new wheel to turn up

Surprised to see that sticker and that left side axle spacer together....

That type of spacer was on the first version of the Hope non-disc hubs. But the decal is the new type.

It's not a standard freewheel hub, it's the single speed hub. It won't take a multi-cog freewheel, only a single speed one. It is from the disc age so that may explain the odd mix of stickers and bits

Yep, single speed hub for my Parkpre :D So the freewheel is a std BMX replacement :? An it unscrews you say?

I've never serviced a hope hub before, are the axle bearings easy to get at? Are there any do's and dont's?

Also found this, it's also an early front hub, but has the same sticker as mine :?

dead easy to get the bearings out, pull the spacers off the axle, lightly tap the axle and it should fall out the other side and take the bearing with it. then knock the other side out with a punch.

If its not been looked after then it sometimes the axles seize to the spacers and require a bit more force, I have heated them lightly in the past.

Order 2x 6001-2RS (SKF or FAG) from "bearing shop .co.uk" be about £2.50 each (or double the price elsewhere ie bikeshop for inferior bearing

I can get the spacer off on the freewheel side, the other side won't budge, and the axle won't punch out. Do i have to take the freewheel off first? Which way does it unscrew? I've got no experience with these singlespeed/bmx things :?

sorry I was being stupid i thought it was the front hub in the second picture.
When i used to BMX I think the freewheel unscrews anticlockwise used to use a punch to knock em off but supposed to use a peg spanner. basically when you pedal against the freewheel it tightens itself up more onto the hub

Still get your bearings from where i said tho save loads.
