Hub vs derralieur gears... fight!

barry2017

Old School Grand Master
Let's start with a pair of wheels

Araya CV-7, 36h, laced to Deore LX hubs with nice amberwall tyres.

These are a bit grotty, but they will clean up well, and they're c h e a p.

Really good for a retro build on a budget.

£29 posted for both. I can probably find a matching front skewer.

Deore DX platform pedals

Again, dirty but will clean up OK. Smooth enough, but of course not being toy pedals they're completely rebuildable.

£7 posted.

One pair (a bikesworth) of braked hubs. These are Sachs/SRAM torpedoes. The rear is 3 speed.

Tough? These would survive nuclear winter, mate. They're tougher than Sturmey-Archer's braked hubs.

£40/pair posted. You can have a bargain deal with these and a pair of rims - NOS 1960s 26 x 1 3/8" steel rims and brand new tyres for an extra £17, or a pair of brand new Rigida alloy eyeletted MTB rims for an extra £14.

More to come tomorrow.

I vouch for the hubs, got them on the Post Office Bike, and they take a right beating. Reasonable weight aswell, I would recommend over Sturmey, the Drums are good and last a while too

plus they make a 9 speed version now I think!

A Radiohead fan?

Gawd, that's a blast from the past.

But no, I posted this in the Retro MTB section earlier.

Pedals sold by the way.
