Hub Gears on RC100

hello ALL, just found out that I have a 26inch wheel laced up to a Sturmey Archer 5speed hub, on the same drop-out spacing. I would ideally want to fit it for the winter so to save my self gear maintenance as I saw the Grit-salt being layed on the road as i was out this evening. but as it is a dRum brake system, I'm faced with the thought of will it damage my frame having it needing to be clamped to the rear fork's for the brake to function. and is it easy to find a clamp that will go around the square tubing of the bike and will the paint or frame suffer extensive damage due to it?????

First response would be 'please don't, give me the frame instead'! Second one would be that you'd have to get a clamp specially made, but that shouldn't be too hard as we have a wealth of talent on here (B3 springs to mind), a decent clamp shouldn't be too damaging, just look at the number of klunkers that the guys on MTBR are pumping out at the moment with clamp on rear drum brakes (although they are steel and not 20 year old ali, so bear that in mind).

If you want a winterproof bike then why not stick to the maguras, and single-speed the bike, great for the fitness - although single speed is sooo last year
