How much rim wear is too much?

Probably one of those how long is a piece of string questions, but I'm wondering if I should put a new wheelset on my shopping list.

There is a definite concave feel to the surface...
Hang on, it's better if i take a pic.

What do you reckon? Lethal or useable?

The rims are Araya AP-21.

Ho dear if your worried about that I better STOP using my hope wheel set as there is about four times more wear than that

I'd read a few other forums almost demanding people replace worn rims... I was hoping Retrobikers would offer a more logical/humorous response.

If my rim blows in the middle of Croxteth I'll be back in touch ;)

I've ridden quite a few rims until they've exploded due to sidewall wear. Most blew whilst pumping up. One failed whilst riding. It was fine. Hard to guage wear from that pic. As ever if you're worried about it I'd stop using it.

Get a high pressure tyre on it and pump it up right high 100psi or so, this will show up any weaknesses.

Am I the only person that read this and then got up out the chair and wandered off and looked at their rims? :D

They're surprisingly strong. I've had some mavic road rims which were almost concave before they finally exploded - and they regualrly had 8 bar in.
