How do i get the bottom bracket out of my Tufftrax

Hi,

The cap on the bottom bracket of my 1980's blue tufftrax will not move. I have soaked it in wd40, bought the correct tool to remove it. Am sure i am turning it the correct way, I think! Have added leverage, can't cut it. Is heat the way to go?

Thanks

Just remember that the right hand side of a BB is a left hand thread (clockwise to undo), and the left side is a right hand. It's the opposite to pedal threads.
To add complexity old Italian BBs were the other way around!

Hi,

Thank you so much, unfortunately the BB shell on my bike is not the type you can insert a tool into. It has the holes in the face you insert a two pegged wrench into. Will see if i can adapt Kingoffootball's idea. bearing in mind Duxuk's advice as i did not know this so may have been making the problem worse.

Trebz I am in Edinburgh

If you download image resizer for windows 999x999 fits perfectly.

Might find someone has the correct tool by a pic :)

Those ones are horrible. I think I'd be tempted just to take it to my LBS and let someone else sweat over it. Some challenges are worth my time but stuck bottom brackets like the one you have are not one of them.

Re:

Get the right tool for the job is the best place to start if that doesn't work try a hammer & punch, (remember it's a left-hand thread) might knacker it up but so will your LBS if they cant shift without ruining their tool!
If you use a punch lay the frame down & use both the holes to tap it round.. :!:

You could always ask a local welder to weld a long bar to the stuck cup, then have a good heave on it.
