true, but have you run a conventionally laced 24 or 18 spoke wheel with hubs notorious for cracking at the flanges off road?

Assuming they're not raced radially (which would be asking for all kinds of trouble), wouldn't they be more likely to crack if they had a higher spoke count, as there would be less material between the holes?
