Hope Suspension Hub

Recently acquired on eBay and immediately surplus to requirements is this Hope Suspension hub.

It is red, has a titanium middle and drilled for 32H and sports Hope's splined disc mount. Notably, it has no cracks whatsoever! It's also a lot smarter than the picture suggests - I didn't take the picture, I nicked it from eBay. Someone else took it.

For the eBay snoopers / Retrobike price-police I'll make it really easy:

out of interest? why did you make a point of mentioning NO CRACKS? cheers

Hope titanium hubs had a tendency to go wrong. I've got two at my house with flanges riddled in big, very visible cracks. I don't know if the earlier ones were especially prone to failure but the later ones I've had have all been ok.

Have a quick trawl through this forum - quite a few have come up for "sales or repair" with shagged flanges.

If nobody wants this hub then I'm going to flush it down the toilet

i was wondering because i had an early BIG`un that cracked on every bolt hole for the disk mounting. when i phoned hope they said they had no record of any problems of cracks in their gear. by the way, the hub was mint condition and not abused and a rear one so hardly stressed. i know people rave about hope but its put me off. sorry to sidetrack on your thread and hope you get a buyer mate

No worries!

I think failures with these hubs are pretty well documented - in fact, Hope are very accomodating about it even now - I called them about one of my (elderley) Fatso's to see if they had spares and they offered to swap it for a new Pro for very reasonable money indeed.

Dunno about Big Un's though, I've never had one. They suggest a fancier type of riding than I am capable of.

fancier riding than me too! i got them second hand on a bike, when i rang hope i was angling for a cheap replacement too, but no such luck. i think what has happened was the steel capheads used to secure the disk had corroded very slightly and expanded and cracked the hole. all the same not what i expected to see from a hub designed as bullet proof.

I think this is blatant profiteering! 1p profit, you want to be ashamed of yourself!

My Hope hub also failed at the flange so an uncracked one is a real bonus - someone snap this up!!!

C'mon then, £15 posted? ;)

Mister Rubble you have rumbled my little game - racketeering of old bike parts - and denounced me as a capitalist via the interweb!

I've had loads of these hubs now. I managed to find a NOS blue front on the 'Bay and it felt all wrong having it built into a rim. I don't ride it much though. I've got a set road wheels with red a Lightweight front and Ti-Glide rear but the front is knackered (I originally wanted the one I'm selling to replace it, but it would look sh*t on a road bike). I think their troubled nature helps make these Hope hubs my favourite cycling component of all time.
