Holdsworth Help

Retro Newbie
Evening everyone!

relative novice here! I acquired a Holdworth bike (see below) about a year ago and realised I don't really know anything about it, apart from the fact I love it dearly. I use it as a commuter, so have blessed it with some OK wheels, fresh tyres, and shimano PD pedals and a cheap shimano cassette.

no plans to sell this, but wouldn't mine knowing what it's worth if anyone has any ideas? or can let me know any more about the bike, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks.

It helps to take the picture from the other side so you see the cranks and the gears and stuff..

But, from what i can see there is an early 1990's(?) road bike with a shimano 105 group set. The original wheels have been replaced with some 'quando' hubbed budget ones.
It has a very nice black turbo saddle in good nick. And a frame made by holdsworthy before before they disappeared or went bust or whatever. Quality 531 Reynolds tubing (?). Forks look to be 531 too.

Recent schwalbe tyres.

Looks well looked after so i would say £125-£175. I'm not saying I would pay that, but if i knew someone who had paid £150 for it, i would say that was about right.

I like how you've taken the picture next to the no cycling sign...

Cheers for the info. I'll stick another photo on later.

It's actually 501 Reynolds tubing , don't know if that makes a difference? Needed the different wheels as the spokes decided to snap out on the old ones!

Yes it makes quite a big difference.. And shows how much i know!

501 is a chrome molybdenum alloy and 531 is a manganese molybdenum i think. 531 is a badge of honor and makes the bike resell-able. 501 does not have the same cachet. But if you're riding a bike you'll never notice the difference.

Imagine you go to the shops to buy 250g packet of maltesers, would they ride be tougher on the way back cos of the extra weight? Thats always been my view.

Does mean the bike is worth about half the price though..

Did you keep the old wheels? If they can be fixed and trued then they might be worth £40.
