Holdsworth Frame ID

Hi,

A friend of mine has the contract to renovate the recently closed Holdsworth shop in Putney.

At the rear of the shop when they were clearing it there were several frames hanging up. I was a bit down the list of choosing frames so ended up with a tatty looking frame and non matching fork.

I wonder if you could ID it for me though, and perhaps give an opinion on some cracking to the junction between seat stays and seattube...

Many thanks!

Ben

That seat cluster looks like an early Carlton "Victor" seat cluster arrangement........ as found on the early Giro D'Italia models.

Re:

Thanks Shaun, I've googled that and you're right, it does look the same. Indeed in the brochure they make quite a point of the seat cluster being 'unique'

Would that model have been badged as a holdsworth though?

How would be best to deal with the cracking around the area? Send it somewhere to be rebrazed? If it's worth saving?

Thanks,

Ben

I used to run a very early Carlton Giro as a Training / hack bike in the 70's as it would take 27X1 1/4 wheels and mudguards, fixed wheel of course :) ...............strangely enough it was yellow and decalled as a "Cliff Pratt" , the bike shop where I worked. Most bike shop bikes were decalled as their own

They had a strange seat cluster with the stays "Shot in" but tapering, after a few years they lost their taper and were less unique. The Giro was a bit ahead of it's time with plain Italian type lugs and the shot in seat stays....

The restoration needs expert help.......the usual suspects Argos, Bob Jackson, Woodrup, Mercian, Ellis Briggs will be able to sort it as would some of the singkle handed guys like Keith Marshall or Kevin Winter.
