HiFi, Speaker cable.

Lat year I bought about 14m of Linn cables.......because.....................they say Linn on 'em...........

OK - I know but they were REALLY cheap, change from £20 :D

Used to work with one big enough to test satellites in...

Combined with the black spiky walls they were truly weird to spend any time in.

Yamaha AX1 well that will be getting on, ours is gone, runs out of steam at volume and the display has failed.

Speaker cable, good old copper, thickness dependent on runs, I use 4mm section on one rig, various on others, length is not a real issue 2m left and 4m right won't make a difference.

The it all sounds the same argument sounds good, but remember it is usually fronted by idiots who assume test bench configurations based on 1m cable just as much as idiots on the other side of the fence, speaker cables are not all made equal, nor are amps and speakers, so in theory getting the most neutral LCR values is great, but most exotic speaker cables do not publish. Apparently all watts sound the same too!

If it was all the same, amplifiers would not go to the funny farm with certain cables, all amplifiers could drive a 4ohm resistive load with no difference, blah blah blah. As an example I have seen an amp which with certain material clip at -26db with VDH D-352 cable, replacing that cable with Naim Nac-5 saw that same material result in clipping at -20db?

PA systems, well a pair of PA speakers can go louder per watt than most domestic systems, and even the biggest baddest subs can struggle to keep up. A 1kw amp driving two 15" JBL subs at 93db sensitivity can be drowned out by a little Akai 40w domestic jobby driving 103db sensitivity 8ohm mains. Systems and power requirements are subjective.

Mains draw, well a class A krell driving insensitive speakers can draw more than a 4 bar heater. Wattage, well I have seen a 100w hi fi amp give more clout and volume than a 600w PA amp.
