Need to confirm my racing bike is a Gitane. Been upgraded. Seems to have a Aluminium Frame. Serial no 6 2330. Another no G 2247. Also LUC With V underneath The LUC. I always find it hard to post photos.

Re: gitane road bike

The bike is a gitane road bike. Seen a few on google. Will need help if possible with the model of the bike. Thank you

Actually, I've just seen that it has a quill stem - that dates the frame much earlier - c.2001 or earlier. The groupset seems to have been added at a later date.

The colours also suggest some kind of Francaise des Jeux team replica paint job

Thank you. I am looking at the catalogue of models and also find 2001. That was a great help. Many thanks izak

Shimano Tiagra 4500 (with the levers set way too high up on the bars - the top is meant to sit level with the top of the bars)
Just tilting the bars down might do it - look at the angle of the bottom straight part of the drops

Each to their own, but I have bought two bikes recently (for renovation and sale) that have levers like this, and find them very uncomfortable.

Per the image, the red line should be straight on modern brifters.

Re:

I take your point re the straight red line and you're correct. However with the shape of older bars, that's impossible to do, which is why I now only use modern bars.
The 25/26mm bars of old never had any hint of good ergonomics. Ive even mounted some old Shimano 1055 brake levers on modern Deda bars, which has helped fit and comfort no end
