HELP - Shoes for these pedals?

Hi!

After a bit of help if possible. Last year I built up an Italian steel Faggin road frame (mid-80s) with a Campagnolo SR/NR groupset but failed with pedals and went for a Chorus/C-record pair of pedals similar to those pictured. They are really quite uncomfortable on long rides with normal sports shoes and I'm wondering if they are designed for a cleat and if so, what shape?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I would simply use some flat SPD touring shoes but without cutting the sole away for the cleat.

Thanks! So essentially just any stiff soled cycling shoe should do? Was it designed for a cleat?

The pedals were designed for a "shoe plate", essentially a block on the sole of the shoe with a slot in it.....or I think they were.

Fantastic pedals - I've used them since '88. For best results, use shoes with plates (cleats). Plenty available depending on your budget and often second hand available on the forum - see recommendations in this thread
