garyc

Retro Newbie
more issues with my trek which i have now stripped down and rebuilt totally (except the forks they seem ok...touch wood)
since i bought it 2nd hand
anyway ive just been told the rear wheel is not circular and ive already spent hours trueing it, almost got it right but took to shop for a final touch and they refused to do it.
so ive got 8 speed cassete on it do i need an 8 speed cassete wheel or are 8 and 9speed cassetes the same size.
ive been told they are and another shop said they were not you guys seem to know more than them so
help
what back wheel do i buy if i go 2nd hand its a shimano 8 spd cassete i need to fit on it
thanks

8 and 9 speed fit on the same freehub bodies no problem if your bike shop wont finish your home true job then shop elsewhere they are obviously going to close soon with attitude like that!

Apart from the early screw on freewheel hubs most will take a Shimano cassette, not the Shimano hub body though as a lot of fancy rear hubs used their own hub body but will still take the cassette.

Quite a few nice sets of wheels for sale on here at the moment.

Agree about the shop, they sound like to*sers, best to find a better one.
