Help Identifying a Claud Butler

Retro Newbie
I have inherited a project bike that I would like to turn into a runabout road bike. Before rebuilding it I wondered if anyone could help identify it. It is a (badly - hand-) repainted Claud Butler perhaps from the 70-90s. It has the typical CB frame joins and was a sandy cream white. The CB logo is cheapish tinny enamel and the bike if currently a 5 speed with down bar friction lever. The brakes are weinmann side pull and the front crack is an unnamed chrome steel with cotter pin fixing. The front fork has a lamp bracket lug and there are two 'bent metal' pump lugs under the cross bar.

Both wheel fittings have lugs for mudguards or luggage racks but there is no lower lug for a rear deraillieur. The rear deraillieur is missing so provides no help in identification.

Any other hints gratefully recieved.

Claud Butler are owned by Falcon now so if you go to their website and fill in the contact form and give them the serial number they should be able to help you. I used this the other week to date my Claud Butler Oracle. A helpful woman called Kailly helped me.

Identify Claud Butler

Thanks SWOS, I will do that. Having checked the bottom bracket there appears to be the word HERVEX, MERVEX or WERVEX stamped in as well as the number 12249? there might be a smaller and longer number stamped between the two lines but i can't read them. Anyone else any clues ?
