Headset Cup Press Rental?

I am thinking of going for the plunge and getting some forks over the web. Unfortunately I have not got the tools and want to do the job right. So therefore, does some have a headset press for rent in the South Wales area?

Ta!

Just pop down to your LBS, most will do it for a few quid.

I popped into Halfords to get a steerer tube shortened as I don't have the tools and they could not of been more helpful, especially seen as I didn't buy anything from them. They wouldn't even take the fiver I offered.

Try a small independent bike shop, most people who work in them ride and are more than happy to help out, even if you do bring your own parts along.

If it's just forks you are buying, is it just the crown race tool you need ? If so they are very easy to make

Yep i was thinking that ebay one
Still havent bought one myself

To set the fork crown race, i use the top cap

Yep - seen the ebay one 5 minutes after posting here. Looks ok. Maybe...

The plastic plumbing pipe works ok does it? I think i might give this all a shot!

Works fine mate, trust me - I wouldn't bodge it ;-)

I have the same eBay headset press, works a treat.

the only 'trick' is to make sure you keep the plates (and the headset cup) at the correct angle to the frame (i.e. 90 degrees, or flat).

Only takes a few minutes to do, and you get great pride from doing the job yourself!

Re: shortening steerer tubes I use an old ahead stem as a cutting guide and just make sure I use a sharp hacksaw that I keep aligned with the stem, then just file off rough edges, never failed me.
