Heads up, cheap Kona steel bike on Gumtree (£100)

Good spot.
It's a 1992 bike (you can tell by the dropouts), it's size 20 not 18 as stated, it has a non-Kona fork and it has a one-word name.
The black paint doesn't help us, as all Konas could be had in black as an option in 1992.
The only 1992 Konas with one-word names were the Hahanna and the Explosif. Hahanna has seven letters and Explosif eight. The name looks like it has eight letters to me, but I can't be quite sure.
IMHO a 92 Hahanna excl P2 is worth £100 or so, a 92 Explosif excl P2 is worth £175 or so.

Are Kona's frame sizes measured from c-top?

Are you sure it's a 20" and not an 18" - I'd be in for it if it was an 18".

yes c-t

If you take a line along the tops of the tyres, there's c15" of seat tube below that line on any bike (given that it's 16 degrees off vertical and the bb height is c11.6") and on this bike there's a lot more seat tube above that line. Plus the head tube looks like a 20" frame, although they all used to be longer in those days.

**Stop press** The seller tells me it's an Explosif!

just phoned him - someone is seeing it tonight.

If they pass (but we know they won't) I'm in for tomorrow morning.

Althouh size 20 sounds big, remember that pre-94 Konas are a good half inch shorter in the top tube - i.e., this bike is the same length as a mid-90s size 19 Kona and only a half inch longer than a size 18.

It's probably around the same length as your de Kerk. How is your (and so nearly my!) de Kerf incidentally - all welded up yet?

On hold at the moment - I'm building the Merlin first which is taking longer than it should.

Then I'll need to find £300 for Roberts to fix her up...

Except for the Hot and the Haole. Of course Hot is only 3 letters and the Haole is a road bike.

A Kona explosif pro for £100 is a bargain. Highly unlikely the guy will say no.
