Anyone know whether the serial number gives any useful info, such as year of manufacture?

Many thanks

Right… It's got a u brake which makes it '92 or earlier,

Sure fire way to tell which I can't see from the pics. The '91 Tequesta (and my '91 Karakoram) rear brake cable was routed through the top tube, entering on the left about 2" back from the head tube. The two gear cables being routed under the bottom bracket.

The key give away though is the stem. '90 and '91 GT stems have a less severely ovalised tube with a flat end cap, the '92 and onward pierced stems have a slightly curved end cap and are more heavily ovalised.

Based on the above I'm fairly confident in saying it's a 1992 Tequesta in the option colour The catalogue colour for that year seems to be black with white stripes, but they used to offer an alternative (my '91 Tequesta was purple and white, but there was an option of light blue with white splatters if I recall).

Hope this helps

Nic , If it's blue with white spots and black lines running through it it's a 1991 model and the color is Moody Blue. What's the serial number?

Serial number is divided in 2. On one side of the bb cable guide is T9109; on the other is A0430423.

And yes, the brake cable is routed through the top tube.

I'm thinking of taking off all the heavy iron and running it as an SS - is it worth it or should I be looking for a lighter frame?

I appreciate that, though many of the parts are not 1991!

In this instance (dont tell the retro police) iI bought it with the intention of turning a nice steel frame into an SS - but it does seem a little heavy for that, even with all of the heavy metal on it!
