GT Owners. I Need Your Help!

Old School Grand Master
Guys, Can someone help me out with a picture or explaination of how the rear brake hanger works? I'm looking at a blue Karakoram with an LX groupo throughout. The cable comes out of the groove tube and through a braze on on the side of the down tube. Am I missing something? This guide is neither lipped or slotted, so how does it work?

Thanks in advance.

the one that guides the brake cable round the seattube? it literally guides the cable, it has no stop function

The more I look at it the odder it looks. I think now that the front mech guide on the opposite side looks weird too. I'm wondering if they are guiding the correct cable? I'm still no further on with the rear cable stop either.

I thought the rear brake had no stop - using canti's, it wasnt needed.
The cable is just steered down at the cantilevers...

U brake ?

I wondered that but I think the bike is too new. We got it second hand years ago for only £170 (I think) when all 'da kids on da street' part exchanged their quality hardtails for cheap full suspension. It has a full 8 spd black LX groupset on it.

There's usually a thin plastic tube through which the cable passes, to prevent the cable from rubbing it's way through the frame – if memory serves, it's about 2" long or so.

Makes sense, and of course I haven't got it! I'm going to bodge it and use the inside sleeve of the old V brake noodle.

What I need is a small length of the stuff Klein owners use as I will need some for the Potts. Where do you go about getting it from?

Ive taken sum photos of what your after, that is if it were u brake

Thanks Matt. You're a gent! This one is slightly different. How long did GT persist with the U brake. I bet they are mighty powerful and less prone to clogging on the seat stays?
Here's what this one looks like:
