I'm going for Tron: Legacy by Daft Punk...but i also want to say Walter Carlos' Clockwork Orange ( who wrote the original Tron music after a sex change as Wendy!!) and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly but........

theres so many to chose from but i remember thinking the soundtrack to collateral was pritty good the last time i watched it, i dont remember noticing it the first time round, which it what a good soundtrack should do

Pulp fiction

Trainspotting had some great tunes as did pulp fiction, fav score is a brian eno soundtrack for the movie "for all mankind".

Any film "soundtrack" which is just a bunch of other peoples song (Pulp Fiction, Trainspotting included!) is just a cop out, lazy.... ;-)

Dirty Harry, still makes me shiver when I watch that film, and I got to go to some of the locations in the film recently!
Bullitt is an awesome soundtrack, great to listen to on its own
Star Wars Trilogy (the proper one), amazingly good to listen to on its own

I used to manage a music shop and I put loads of soundtracks on, some of them are so amazing they sometimes outshine the film itself! Or at least make the film as it does.

Lalo Schifrin composed some badass scores.

+ 1 for Trainspotting and Pulp Fiction

Kill Bill and Easy Rider are two off the top of my head. And Apocalypse Now.

I think it works well if it's Diegetic Sound.
