thinking about getting one , but is there a GPS out there which is good on the bike ( footpaths, bridelway , point to point etc... ) and also good in the car ( city centre etc.. ) .

Probably doesn't help, but the mrs has just got the Nokia E72 and the Sat Nav on that is very very good. With voice directions, 3D map etc. It's as good as the dedicated Garmin GPS' with the added advantage of switching to Satellite view so you can really get to see any landmarks if your out and about.

It will do "walk to" and "drive to" aswell as the usual find pub, restaurant, cash point etc in the area. I haven't researched dedicated walking maps yet though.

I don't think there's a perfect solution.

Close is Road Angel Navigator 7000 with Memory Map installed and some OS maps. Cheap off Ebay. Not the best Sat Nav for the car though.

GPS Enabled phone 3G, Google Maps and whichever Sat Nav software, but would you want to strap it on the bike?!? And it costs to run.

PDA, Integrated/bluetooth GPS, any Sat Nav software, any mapping software and maps. Battery life is a downfall here especially with external bluetooth GPS module. You'll need an Otterbox or such to ruggedise the PDA.

A handheld or GPS phone will be fine, keeping it strapped to the bars is the hard bit.

They need a clear view of the sky to operate.
