Ginet Reynolds 531

Reboot

Retro Newbie
Hello, trying to get into road bikes after some 35 years (was more mountain biking but time to change...)
I bought this from a French neighbour - very well maintained, runs very smoothly though well used clearly. It’s meant as a starter bike though gears are heavy from that time! My question is as I get more into it (hopefully) is this something I should anyway keep as a classic or get rid when I trade up? I find it great looking...and I know 531 is good stuff! Thank you

Looks a quality frame with nice detailing and finishing touches. A keeper in my view, if it fits you. Fit a smaller set of chainrings (on something like a Stronglight chainset) and you should be enjoying even the hills.

Thank you, appreciated - it seems from my research it’s not a top French brand at all, but this might have been a higher model - certainly for my untrained experience it rides well and is super light — will look into chainset, thanks for advice!

Reboot -

Ginet was one of the lesser known French marques but a good company, nonetheless. Your bike looks to be a mid-market model with 531 butted main frame and hi-tensile stays and forks. The equipment on it is off quite good quality and shouldn't need replacing except for the rear derailleur. It is a Simplex but is a hook mount and goes not fit the forged dropout and should be replaced.

Thank you very much for this great info. As it happens unfortunately the frame seems a little small for me....what a pity. Want to keep it anyway because I just like the way it looks and small frame ok for me for short flat distances at least!
