Giant ATX 890 -> my modern bike !

Nice build, looks better with the updated saddle and grips. I had an xtc 2.5 and it was a really light frame and was probably the best fitting bike I've had. That and the cadex were a couple of my bike sale regrets.

thank you ishaw, this bike is perfect for going fast on descents, without worrying about trajectories or braking 😁
love it even if it's modern

Hi. Nice work on the 'renovation'. I have the exact same frame that I am converting to gravel riding. Can you tell me what what brake set you used to go disc? Thanks!

Hi Herman, thank you, brake set are Shimano SLX M675

Sorry to raise the thread from the dead, but I thought it was easier than making an entire new thread. I just bought the exact same frame as OP, and I had a few questions. Thanks in advance if you can help me with any of them!

-The frame is 17.5 yet it's called small. I would have thought a 16" frame would be small? I'm not complaining, because I'm right on the cusp of 52-54 in road frames and feel that a 17.5 will fit me just nicely. It was odd to see the "small" is all.

-Does anyone know if the original bike was specced with 80mm or 100mm travel forks? I know earlier 90s versions were specced with 80mm forks, but this frame is slightly later, very much at the end of the line for the ATX, before the XTC models, so I am thinking a 100mm travel fork will be fine.

-Can anyone shed any light on what level of drivetrain this bike was originally specced with? I'm thinking it was their top of the line XC hardtail, so maybe Shimano Deore XT? Am I correct in thinking that the ATX 870-860 may have had something like SLX and the 850-840 something like Deore? This is just for my own curiousity, as I have some really nice 3x9 XT stuff to put on my frame, from about a decade later, and I'm wondering if the XT level componetry is appropriate (historically, that is, it's nice stuff that's going to be used either way!).

-Does anyone know what the original wheels were? I.e. Giant branded whels, Shimano OEM hubs, etc.?
