For those of you that are interested, I swapped the saddle for a brooks pro and bought a shorter ITM stem.

Its actually in great shape and I was thinking I could use it for club runs as it is also pretty light at about 10kg, I would say.

The only problem I foresee is that it is 6 speed friction. So having had it out a few times, it's tricky to stay in the one gear. Was this the problem with friction in general?

Do you think it's suitable for club rides?

You might have to tighten the friction lever a tad :)

I rode for years with friction levers without problems.

The reason I guess they went indexed (after my racing years) was evident whenever the pack (peloton) came acrtoss a hill or readied themselves for a sprint..........lots of noise / grating / staring down at the gears and swearing LOL

definitely, the levers are a bit too loose. take the bolt out and grease it and do it up just tight enough so it stays in gear... IME the front one is the one that moves on it's own more easily
