freewheel advice needed please

Hello!
I am currently assembling parts for my ss project and I have some nos ringle bubba screw on hubs that i'd like to use....... My question is can i just use a bmx type freewheel and scew it to the threaded hub or is this not possible due to chain line complications?

Anyone know if this is the way forward?

Cheers, Fenton

Im currently building a set of Ringle wheels using a rear screw on hub, dont know much about BMX stuff but youll need an appropriate screw on compatible cassette and the correct length hub aswell,i think most screw on rears are 130mm which is a bit smaller than the 135mm std spacing,it will be ok(i think) on a steel frame but a bit dodgy clamped into an ally one.

hope this helps

I think you are going to struggle to get a correct chain line .

maybe move the front ring on the inside of the cranks .

Thanks mate, hub width is fine....... my frame has 130mm dropouts as its from 1989 so no probs there, was just thinking that I don't want a whole screw on cassette sitting on there when I only need one cog............

thanks 'cchris2lou' that was my concern, as the single cog will be a long way over........ i think!

You'll probably have chainline problems, though if you use a very small chainring with a short bottom bracket axle you can sometimes get it close enough to work.

Some hubs (and I don't know about Bubbas) let you fit the axle the other way round, which can push the chainline out, but generally gets you a reverse-dished wheel. That looks odd, but works fine.

Another option is to use something like a HED or Specialized trispoke track adapter. This is just a tube with a female thread at one end and a male thread at the other. You screw it onto the hub, then screw a freewheel (or a track cog) onto the other end.

There was a chap with one on another forum. He might be looking to sell:

Another thing to bear in mind is that BMX freewheels come in two different thread sizes - 16T and above are one size, the rarer 13/14/15T are another.
