Free hub removal

Done this plenty of times B4, wanting to swap a 135mm axled set of nice FIR wheels from 7spd to 8spd, but the freehub retaining stud appears to be the non-usual size of 9mm!!!! Generally these are always 10mm and no way a Ten is going to fit an 8 is way too small. Any advice on this, it's a Shimano Parallax hub so should be pretty standard? Weird.

Could it be a non-Shimano freehub mounted on a Shimano hub?

I thought you couldn't fit an 8-sp freehub onto a 7-sp hub because it's bigger and it'll be too big for the axle, or is that just an old wives' tale?

The hubs get narrower as the cogs get wider....

That's why a 7-sp hub is wider than an 8-sp hub? So put a 8-sp freehub on a 7-sp hub and you get wide times two?

Hub

Just have to make sure its a 135 and not a 130 axle as it it won't fit otherwise. Both hub and freehub are Shimano. Managed to get a 10mm to fit, (after machining one down to fit) but the bolt will not budge, must be loctited in?

They're supposed to be mega-tight anyway, aren't they? Do you use a handlebar over the allen key for leverage, or is it only us softy southerners who do that sort of thing?
