Frame preparation

Hi everyone,

I'm going to respray a frame myself, with a spray gun someone has lent me.

I'm not expecting Concours d'Elegance type results, but if it's half decent, I'll be happy.

But what would you recommend I do to prepare the frame? It is chipped in liars of places, chrome is flaking off the forks etc..

So, do I get it sand blasted, dipped in an acid bath, or reach for my blow lamp, paint stripper and scraper?

Re:

Media blasted can be the easiest, around £20, make sure they use a light media as shot can be too abrasive. I use paint stripper and elbow grease and go over the frame with soapy water to clean and neutralize it. Wire wool when dry. Chrome can be removed by reverse process, dipping parts at a chromers. Before painting make sure its de-greased thoroughly and use panel wipe on a lint free cloth or tack rag. Use an Acid etch primer before paint and lacquer.
Sure others will chip in with ideas.
Good luck!

Simon
