Jack Taylor (Joe Clementson) 23.5” Bike

From my research online Joe Clementson was a lifelong cyclist and Darlington cycle dealer. He opened his first shop in 1933, was called up in 1941, was a prisoner of war and on his return re-opened his shop. He gained numerous prizes on track and road and competed against top British riders Frank Southall and the Horne brothers and the French brothers Roger and Guy Lapebie.

A friend of mine has recently spoken to Jack Taylor and one of the question he asked Jack was about Joe Clementson frames, Jack confirmed he made these frames for Joe Clementson in the 1960’s and badged them as Joe Clementson frames.

The frame number of this frame is 5740 which dates it to 1967. The frame is finished in purple with chrome head lugs; fork crown; and front & rear ends, with gold lug lining. The seat tube is 23.5” 60cm from the centre of the bottom bracket to the top of the top tube; the top tube is 22.5” from centre to centre. The frame has Campagnolo ends; bottle cage mounts and gear lever mounts on the down tube. It has a 531 Renovated sticker on it so I assume it has been repainted at some stage in its life, it is in lovely condition.

The wheels are Weinmann 27” rims with Campagnolo large flange hubs. The gears and levers are Campagnolo record. The chainset is a Stronglight 49D with Lyotard pedals. The brakes and levers are Shimano. The saddle is a Brooks Competition. The bars and stem are Cinelli and the mudguards are Bluemels Olympic.

The bike has been very well looked after by its former original owner and judging by the components was resprayed in the early 1980’s.
I am looking for £450 for this classic bike, I am based in North Yorkshire near to Middlesbrough but I am quite happy to dismantle and send using Parcelforce.

Yes my friend lives very near to the Jack Taylor and he is still alive. Norman has past away and another brother who was not involved in the cycle business died very recently.
