For retro Hi-Fi buffs

In fact, PFM originally came about partly because a few people became fed up with not being allowed to discuss modification/DIY repair of Naim gear on the Naim forum. More or less any post on there that alludes to the owner doing their own work on a Naim product will be pulled very quickly. By all means ask, but don't be surprised if the response doesn't really help.

The DIY section on PFM is full of guys active within the industry in the UK. You'll find contact details for Avondale Audio in there somewhere, and they're real experts at resurrecting Naim gear, and generally at good rates.

Cheers, Gareth.

Plenty of talented bodgers there, ready and waiting with soldering irons pre-heated and prone.
 Talented bodgers are usually called upon to fix broken toasters -- I wouldn't really let them anywhere near a Naim CD player and dedicated power supply...

Tintin40, get your friend to post a good description of what's happening on here: http://forums.naim-audio.com/eve/forums
Hopefully, he'll get a list of options from some pretty well-informed people.

Fair enough, Gareth -- I didn't know the story behind PFM. My mistake!

Naim have been pretty sensitive about their gear for as long as I can remember. Back in the late 80s, I remember a story about a hi-fi dealer who had sold a pair of used SBLs to a customer, popped them into the back of the customer's car, and let him take them home and set them up. By the time the customer got them home, there was a crack in the collar that connected the tweeter unit to the bass enclosure.

Once news of this got back to Naim, they simply cut off his supply of Naim equipment. Just like that!

naim stuff is special, and not in a way i like

a lot of it tends to be bought by naim enthusiasts rather than hi-fi enthusiasts..... controversial i know but i see it a lot.

I agree with you too. They have never been to my taste either. And my boss is 100% Naim.
Have sent on names of the web sites & info to him.
Thanks fellow Retrobikers
