I determined to have a holiday next year, it's been way too long.
I want to take my three daughters, 11,13 and 29 and myself.
Can't believe how expensive it is!
Any recommendations...hot but not scorchio beach holiday and cheap :-(

A colleague paid nearly £4k for his holiday in Cyprus this year, 3 kids

Unfortunately due to problems in Egypt and Tunisia, these folks have spread to other destinations pushing demand/ prices up.

Thompson have the market sown up in owning the hotels and the aircraft and pretty much charge what they like.

We scraped together a holiday in Rhodes for around £1300 for an all inclusive - we thought we'd paid for two weeks - the broker told us 'oops'. It was only for 1 week. We jumped up and down and the broker forked out the extra £900 for the flight home/ extra week. We considered ourselves very very lucky.

Late booking seems to have disappeared in the 6 years since we last went away (the welcome in Greece hasnt changed though).

Depends what time of year really. Take the fines and go out of term?

Portugal is great value right now, while steering clear of the crisis.

Two weeks in California in April in school holidays for £3000 plus food: fly drive for a family of 4 with Virgin Atlantic to San Francisco with a big SUV and then camped. $15 per night in National Parks, $10 in National Forests. Motels were $100 per night for a family room on a walk-in rate. I could have saved another £300 with a smaller and more sensible car. I took the camping equipment with me, was still well within the baggage allowance.

Re:

It's mental isn't it? £3-4K for a holiday.
I only have £2k plus spending and even that feels like a chunk to me.
Mmm...camping Newport :-(

I have a modern six man tent and all the kit - cooker, air beds, table etc you could have for a very nominal sum. Some lovely sites along the coast.

3 bed thing - same as this http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/tents/userimages/5418.jpg

The rain is your oyster

Or do they still do those sites in france where its all up for you when you arrive? Must be cheaper.
