Fisher RS1

RS-1

I owned the first RS-1, which I bought from Gary Fisher. That bike is still here in Fairfax owned by the guy I sold it to. They made a run of 1000 of them, although I am not sure they completed and sold all of them. Mert Lawwill designed the rear suspension, and it is very sophisticated for the time. The springs are only bumpers, but they worked well, with three different colors for different weight riders, these being blue, red, and black (heaviest). Later on, Mert moved to Yeti and used basically the same design with extended travel and a real shock/spring on the Straight 6 and Straight 8 bikes. The bike came stock with a Rockshox, but I fitted the Lawwill Leader fork for longer travel and better feel. The Leader fork kind of looks like the rear suspension design turned on end. They also were one of the first bikes to use a disc brake-the Hope mechanical. Those bikes cost around $1400.00 BITD, a lot of money at the time.
