Well in preperation for MM myself and CK are racing on Sunday at Tunstall in the first round of the Thetford Summer Series. We are both signed up for the 4 hour race and it looks like it's goind to be a muddy one.

As it's my first race any tips? and should i swap out the 2.3 Nobby Nics on my bike to something a bit more mud friendly? any suggestions?

crush your opponents by turning up early with slicks fitted

when lesser riders arrive give their bikes " the eye " and instill doubt from the offset with casual remarks like " oh your using knobblies are you " and " ive just been around the course a couple times and its not as hard as the organisers are making out "

2.3 may be a bit to fat for mud? Main thing stay away from the middle of the pack as that's were most accidents happen. stay near the front out of trouble and you wont get blocked at the first narrow section when some body puts his feet down or gets off and walks up the first climb

This is Tunstall there is no climbing, I've read there are no bombholes on the course due to nesting birds or summat. Just pace your self, don't get caught up in the first lap dash they will soon fade as you plod on and overtake them all. Eat and drink plenty, abstain from sex during the race and make sure you get completely rat faced the night before. Above all enjoy it, you always ride faster with a smile on your face :D

not a problem, i'm racing with Dan  where did you read about the bombholes Chris? they are the funnest bits.

May have misled you a little, quote from Thetford MTB racing forum "Yeah, it is a good course and should be welcomed by those that like a 'proper race course'. Shame the nesting-bird restrictions meant some of the bombholes couldn't be used. Quite looking forward to it."
