you reckon that brown stuff around the drive side dropout is dirt of rust? seems about the place you were saying they go. i like the shifters tho

These are the style of dropouts they used up until 1993 and I haven't heard of problems with them, as opposed to the later ones. It would be worthwhile checking with the seller though, if you have it in mind to bid.

Note the rear U-brake, which identifies the bike as a '1988' (i.e., 1989). I believe they work well enough, once properly set up.
