Err having a blonde moment!

:D Right!! Always run the rear on right from riding bmx and downhill.
Catches a few people out when they ride my bikes
I'm right handed and if I grab a hand full of brake in an emergency, I don't want it to be the front!
I'm not american by the way , but some say I am mad

I'm a right-rear guy as well. Every bike i had growing up had right rear, spent most of my time on a BMX with only a rear brake.
And not American either.

So yanks like it the other way;-)
When I cabled my rear brake the cable was clearly going to be better if I put the
rear on the right, no way could I get used to it; well I gave it a week and changed it.

Re:

Right side sitting on the bike is the front brake. Same as motorbikes. In fact back and front brakes are both on the right hand side on motorbikes (except for "classic" British bikes with RHS gear change and LHS rear foot brake.) Every bike I've had and have has been like that.

Re:

Left or right I'd say personal taste. But not only the gringos have right-rear. All of continental Europe, and from personal experience, also China and India, use this set up...
