Oh Dear,
It does look like the canti mounts are still on te rear so wont be a problem reverting back to a period build.
Can anyone confirm the claim about the previous owner though?

Nice piece of kit none the less 8)

Gc

Remember JMC and his girlfriend riding Al a Carte's for team MBUK in about 1991? If it's one of that vintage then the current owner's ruined it imo. :(

Or has used the bike consistantly for nearly 20 years. To quote the words of some daily mail princess diana fan: 'it's what he would have wanted'

i think it might actually be JMC's bike or one of them. the reason i think this is that a while ago a friend of mine in the bike trade posted a mobile upload on his facebook account of this bike "at his mate steve's" place of work. the caption on his facebook says "spotted this, JMC's old MBUK salsa" definately the same bike in both pics. says parts have been changed due to being used by the owner as opposed to stored.

also my friend has worked at orange mountain bikes for years, since the early days. he knew JMC. think it is defo the real thing.

have just checked and the area and names look right.

good luck to anyone bidding :D owning one of JMC's bikes would be a british holy grail i think.

Well something doesnt add up :? , the guy claims the bike is about 12 years old, JMC sadly died in 94 and was with Specialized for at least a year before that.

i think you'll find the guy just doesn't know exactly what he's got and how potentially valuble it could be to someone. iirc from what i was told it was given in part ex for some work before JMC's accident. so the person who owns it may know where it came from but isn't a collector or retro nut like us, hence the not particularly good listing.

oh and i've emailed the guy i know to ask if it is that bike for sure and to check it hasn't been nicked

The owner got in touch with me directly. I have posed the question (as I suspect many of you have) as to whether he has any proof that is JMCs old frame....
