Does anyone know what option to select when ending an auction to avoid paying eBay fees? I've only done it once and am sure I still got stung for a sellers fee, anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

unless you relist the item , I think there are no way of not paying listings fees .

You can end your listing early:

Just choose "item is lost or broken" and that will end the listing.

You still have to pay the listing fee (cheap), but not a final value fee as the listing has been ended without a buyer.

You can choose to end early and sell to high bidder at current price -in this case you will pay final value fee.

When you click on links to various merchants on this site and make a purchase, this can result in this site earning a commission. Affiliate programs and affiliations include, but are not limited to, the eBay Partner Network.
Or you can cancel bids and end the listing if it's more than 24 hours from auction end. If you have a winning bid you can't cancel within 24 hours of auction end.

The link above probably said that already, didn't it...? I was too lazy to click it...

so if there's less than 24 hrs on the auction then I'm buggered? There's no reserve on the item so does mean that all bids potentially count as winning bids?

You can't end a listing less than 12 hours before the end of the listing if the item has a winning bid:
You may cancel bids, but not end the item unless you are selling the item to the high bidder. To do this, go to the End My Listing Early form and select "Sell to the high bidder".
You can't add to or change the item description.
If the item becomes unavailable during the last 12 hours of the auction (for example, you break it) you must contact the high bidder or buyer and explain what happened. You can get a Final Value Fee Credit if you and the buyer must confirm you mutually agreed to withdraw from the purchase.
