He told me that this is a NOS size 16 Explosif that he picked up as bankrupt stock. He described a warranty as 'difficult' as he isn't a Kona dealer. The spec is that of a 2003 Explosif, as is the size 19 catalogue picture he has used, but he didn't seem to be sure of the year nor even the colour as it is 'in the warehouse'.
If it's the right size, it could be a very good buy. 2003 was the last year of True Temper Explosifs and the last one not to have a sliding dropout, although it does have a disc tab. It was also the last year of lightish weight Explosifs, as the Dedacciai frames from 2004 onwards were built heavier.
I went to £220, even though i had to sell the Hahanna on as it was just too small, was hoping with the extra inch and risers i would have got away with a 16 inch explosif.
I dont suppose you know of any 17 or 18 inch Kona's knocking about do you BKT?
yeah it sat at £220 for quite a while, by the time i put my bid in it was over what i wanted to pay.
theres an 17" bottle green lava dome supposed to be coming my way any day now, ive not checked the condition of the frame too closely but im just after the middleburn chainset and hope wheelset so ill give you first refusal if thats something youd be interested in? ive got to get over to chester sometime next week to see it but im mad busy with work and sorting out the mess after a house move etc at the moment
That bike was £1,200 new and this one was supposed to be new. OK, no warranty, but new parts should last a while, and a disc-equipped frame - the only disc-equipped non-Dedacciai Explosif ever. £360 doesn't seem a lot to me, if it was the right size for you.
