Hi guys,
Well as some of you know, I'm looking for a couple of bikes. I've had some very positive responses from the forum but I cant resist having a prowl around. I was offered a Kona Kula today for a song which Im considering strongly but I've spent a few hours this afternoon browsing ebay.
What strikes me as odd about most of the sales is that the descriptions just dont add up. Well a combination of the descriptions and the sellers pricing/situation.
Heres just one example. A guy lists a 2009 Trek 8000 and it is £650 (0 bids) with 1 day to go. This is a what, say £1500 bike. OK so its starting bid. But his reason for selling? Well he says he's moving to the USA and cannot justify shipping it. Really? A £1500 bike which would cost almost nothing as part of a house move in a container. Odd considering its worth more than most peoples bed and/or sofa.
Then theres another guy who is listing multiple quality bikes on two different accounts. All cash on collection of course.
Oh and another, who wants the buyer to take £1500 to a random house in the middle of nowhere and exchange it for a bike. No buyer protection whatsoever, from either fraud or being mugged at the sellers property.
It just all smells a bit like Grimsby docks to me. Has anyone else ever noticed this on eBay?
Obviously its in all our interests to stamp out theft etc.
Any opinions?
