Bicycle for sale, an Aladdin’s cave of parts for a project bike (if you can find a frame!).
The history:
This bike was made in Ghent (Belgium) in the early 1970s by Walter Godefroot after his active racing career. It was first owned by my parents’ GP who then sold it to my dad in the early 1980s. My dad rode it until the late 1980s. It was then stored until 1999, when I started using it regularly. I took it with me when I moved to the UK in 2004 and used it for commuting, training as well as the 2006 London triathlon!
The bike is mechanically very sound, but in October 2008 the frame (Colnago?) cracked near the bottom bracket. The bike is largely original, except where indicated below. I do regret having to sell it for parts as it has been in the family for quite some time. But I don’t have the space and tools to build the parts around a new frame.
The details:
Handlebars:
Ambrosio Champion
Headset:
Campagnolo (needs tightening every + 40 miles)
Cranks:
Campagnolo Strada 170mm (52-39)
Campagnolo bottom bracket, approximately 1mm play (well, the bike has been USED during the past 35 years!)
Rear derailleur:
Campagnolo Record (6 speed), works absolutely flawlessly.
The jockey wheel of the rear derailleur was replaced in 2006. The cassette was completely rebuilt in the same year around the original Michelin hub.
Brakes:
Weinmann (working very well)
Shifters:
Shimano Altus -early 1980s replacement (?). (working very well), the shifter clamp is a bit rusty but the shifters themselves are fine and not even oxidated
Front Derailleur:
2001 Shimano Ultegra (replaced the original one), works ok but not brilliantly in combination with the Campa group (some manual ‘fine-tuning’ is at times needed after having shifted)
Wheels:
Original Michelin hubs
Recent Mavic wheels (front 2000, rear 2006), straight rims
Fork:
Good condition, straight
Frame:
Colagno (?). Crack near the bottom bracket
Saddle and seatpost
Unicanitor Brevettata, Campagnolo seatpost
The bike is overall rust-free, though there is some minor oxidation on some parts (e.g. the shifter clamps).
This is an honest description of the bike and parts, to the best of my knowledge. Having spotted some of its parts (the rear derailleur and the handlebars) on some older bicycles, I am just beginning the think that the bike might be slightly older than what I originally thought…
Sensible offers welcome.
Thanks,
Ernst

PS I also welcome any further advice from any Campa-experts out there!
