The project has started

I was going to use my just stripped down Dialled PA frame when I remembered the Global Ti softail in the attic (just happened to have one lying around!)

I've just attached a Magura HS66 lever to a Julie caliper, and the experiment seems to have worked. Needs a bleed, but we have movement.

So the components are as follows (all from the 'spares' bin)............

Frame - Global Ti Softail with Magura Rond air shock
Forks - Magura Rond 100mm
Brakes - Magura HS66/Julie hybrids - drop bar hydraulic discs
Rotors - 180/160 hope
Stem - Syncros 10* rise, 120mm reach
Bars - Salsa Woodchippers
Wheels - Hope XC hubs with Mavic rims + 17t Surly cog
Seatpost - X-lite Metal Matrix or X-lite Clickon
Saddle - Flite
Cranks - Middleburn RS2s or M-737 cranks + 34t ring
Tyres - to be decided
Tensioner - I've got a couple somewhere!

Pootling, XC, off-road/back-country touring. Though I'm going to be interested to see how it handles on some of the more techy stuff around here too.

I have most of the bits, and I've always had a hankering for a drop-barred MTB.

Here's some photos of the build so far....










Going for a silver/grey/black build, and I'm thinking that a black seatpost will look a lot nicer. Maybe a Syncros, if I can find one 27.2.

Ignore the grey gaffer tape on the handlebars, it's just holding the bar tape in place until I buy some black electrical tape tomorrow!

The Magura HS66 & Julie hybrid seems to work - all hoses trimmed & bled, etc. My only worry is that it will be a closed system, so if it overheats I'll get bad brake fade.

The Goldtec ring looks nice on the XT cranks, especially with the Royce bolts.

Planning on a shakedown ride on Saturday, weather depending!

Finished the build (well 1st draft as it were!)
Looks a lot more in proportion with tyres on!
Also swapped the stem for a shorter one (though I suspect I need to get one with a higher rise too) and put on a different seatpost and saddle.
