That's the Ahead II as far as I'm aware.

The name you are looking at the kontak ST is heavy budget steel headset and that is not the picture for it. It's a rounder profile headset.

I have a '95 Stumpjumper M2 FS, but that is not the headset it came with. Mine sported a strange Diacomp Aheadset that had the upper bearing cone mounted in the frame, with the cup on the steerer... The bottom bearing was normal. This headset has always creaked for me, and so I replaced it. When I used it temporarily on my wife's bike, it creaked again.

Echoing others, the 97 LD came with a DiaCompe ST2 which isn't the same as the Kontak version. Good luck with the build!

Thanks to input from everyone, it has been determined that the headset we need is probably not a Kontak but a Dia Compe Ahead II. The picture of the headset in the original post is correct...we need the one with the angles edges, silver, 1 1/8".

This changes the "bikes" list...I'll start googling and revise with what I find out..

I think many of the ahead Ii style with the angles can be had as they are probably still on the go, I might even have some part (could be Tioga avenger but they are probably just rebrands)

I have owned one from New, I bought it new in lake Tahoe in 94/95 i think

Pretty old thread, but if your trying to value a bike there is a thread on here just for that, also stating which bike you actually have, and the condition, size etc would help no end in placing a value on it

Pictures are also a real help too and always welcomed
