DIY mudguards, or cheap mudguards

I've come to the conclusion that as much as I dispise the look of mudguards I could probably really use some after being absolutely soaked on the way home from work last night, the problem is they need to be cheap and I need to be able to buy them tomorrow so need to be in Mansfield itself as I have very little time between waking up after my night shift and buggering off back to work. other than that any idea's for DIY homemade make shift ones?. I'm not normally tight fisted but after buying, insuring and taxing my car I'm skint plus I wouldn't really use them much.

Actually think I may of found a way using 2litre pop bottles and some zip ties, sounds a bit blue peter but think I'll give it a go lol
