Did Marin ever make road bikes & if they did, were they any good. I'm thinking of around late 1990's early to mid 2000's? Any names of them I can google to check out, as I will be hopefully be taking delivery (in a couple of weeks) of a Marin roady, but I know nothing about them?

I remember them - Marin didn't do things by halves (the bikes were built around good quality, Italian-made frames with Dedacciai alloy tubing) and the machines got favourable press reviews. Presumably they didn't sell as well as hoped, I suspect in part 'cause most people only associate the Marin name with MTBs. Shame really as they were nice bikes.

any idea who actually built these? i hadn't heard about a cromo bike that old...that was old-school USA for sure. but by 2000, in alloy, italy? i'd have guessed taiwan for sure.

Nah, definitely Italian - I saw a couple in my then-LBS (York Cycleworks IIRC) around that time [1] and double-checked the "Made in...." stickers as I'd naturally assumed they'd be Far Eastern jobs.

[1] Including an eyecatching one with yellow/red colour scheme. Hunters Point was the model name, I think. Not to be confused with the Hunters Hill machine from the Marin stable.

Edit - here you go: http://www.ciclimontanini.it/public/mar ... errone.jpg

In original shop-bought condition I seem to recall that these bikes also had red Michelin tyres and a red saddle.
