Diamond Back Topanga 1991

Line Rider

Retro Newbie
Hi everyone,

I finally bought the beast for 50$ (cad), it was neither a apex or a axis but a 1991 topanga 16'' (c-c), designed in USA, built in Taiwan. I wish that this is gona make purist feel better since this bike ain't gonna be stock.

It came to me with the original fork, 2 pairs of plastic cantilever brakes and a jammed (undersized) seat tube. I could have had these nice Ambrosio 36 spokes wheel that were on it first but the hubs and spokes/nipples were dead and I only have 32 hole hubs at home. All the other parts were totally dead. Do you think I should get back to buy the wheels?

I wanted to take pictures from the beginning of the precess but I forgot about it and cleaned it up. There was at least 1/4'' thick of sandy grease around the botom bracket, glue form stickers, dirt and rust all over it. I took out the metal eater WD-40 and sprayed it into the seat tube, botom bracket tube ant head tube. I found some odd shaped rusty parts that, I think, belogned to the last botom bracket.

Parts I know that will be on it:
-Shimano 600 ex derailler
-Sella Italia Anatomic seat (from the same epoch that the derailler)
-Silstar Sakae 170mm cranks with shimano 600 42 or 52 plate.
-Maybe new paint job, What do you think of it?

I have already modified the frame (sorry). I drilled in the seat tube bolt post to fit in some screw so the head wont stick out.

I would like to add more pictures but I can't find out how, can anyone help me?

Hello and welcome, the easiest way to post pics is to use an image hosting site like photobucket as you don't need to resize the pics.

Otherwise use the attatchment option at the bottom when writing or editing your post

my first "proper" mtb was one of them but with a spatter paint job
great bike
