Degreaseing

There is enough organic solvent in GT-85 or WD-40 for it to soften up the gunk and clean it up nicely.

I’ve used lots of things - diesel, white spirit, wd-40 in a gallon container, branded degreaser. The one I’ve found that isn’t necessarily the best but is the most versatile is a G101 type cleaner. As it’s water based seems a lot less harsh/stinky than anything solvent based. It’s basically like a super concentrated Flash lemon that you dilute to whatever you are cleaning. I’ve used it at 50% dilution to degrease stuff like cassettes, using hot water to dilute speeds it up. Then down to 10 to 20% to clean anything from car upholstery, spillages on the carpet, even whitened up my wife’s trainers! When using on metal does need a spray and wipe of wd40 or light oil after.
