Dawes Stratos restore

Hi everyone.

I was given a Dawes Stratos by my father-in-law a couple of years ago. I have stripped it down with a view to either restoring it or having it painted another colour. It has Reynolds 531 tubing and a part Shimano 600 groupset, front and rear derailleurs and down tube shifters. I'm on the lookout for a 600 chainset, callipers and levers (6208) if possible.

The frame is in ok condition apart from a small dent in the top tube. I can't decide whether to restore the original colours or do something different. I'd also like to get hold of the grey Mavic rims or is there a similar alternative?

Any tips and ideas more than welcome!

Lee :D

Here's my Dawes Stratos if you need ideas on original paintwork and where the decals were placed.

Bought it from new and still use it today :)

That's the model of Stratos I remember from my teenage years - strictly a racing machine, no mudguard eyes etc.; only the Linear (Reynolds 653 tubeset) stood above it in the Dawes road bike range.

It's served me well.
105 group set originally, but have fitted Campag chain wheel and seat post, San Marco saddle and Mavic Open 4CD wheels over the years.
Just found out that Shimano has reintroduced STI gear/brake levers for the old 7 speed cassettes, so will soon be fitting that.
