dawes galaxey, year and tubing help needed

About 2005, tubing is 531ST. It's one of the last of the lugged and brazed ones. After that they went welded. It also was probably still made in Birmingham.

Indeed. The later ones don't look nearly as nice and don't have the detailing like 'Dawes' on the top of the seatstays. It's just about the best year of Galaxy they made in my view. The drivetrain can be gently upgraded to save a bit of weight and look less ugly though.

Not wishing to contradict hamster but I don't think any frames were built by Dawes in Birmingham after 1986. Dawes went through a convoluted slow spiral of decline until Tandem Group became owners around 2000. Galaxy frames were then built in the Czech Republic.

If you're looking to sell it I'd stick it on the CTC forum, they love a good Galaxy :)

Not yet heard back off Jason Rourke about your Brian Rourke

My tandem from 1994 was fillet brazed and says built in the UK. I agree there may be some weasel words about 'built' and 'made'.
Disappointed that it wasn't a brummy one...

I dug up elsewhere that they stopped UK manufacture after the company was sold in 1990 to ATAG.
